Whole Lentil Chole Chaat

Chole is chickpeas in Hindi. This recipe can be used for any whole lentil.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas
  • 1 tablespoon Kripa Ghee/Oil
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Kripa Turmeric 
  • 1 teaspoon Kripa House Blend No. 27
  • 1 tablespoon Kripa Garam Masala No. 24
  • 2cm piece ginger, grated
  • 2 red chillies, finely chopped
Methods
  1. Remove a ½ cup of cooked chickpeas and mash with a fork. Set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a heavy-based saucepan over low heat and cook the onion until golden brown.
  3. Add the coriander, cumin, turmeric, house blend and garam masala and fry for a minute.
  4. Add the ginger, chilli, tomato and salt to taste and stir until well mixed.
  5. Add the chickpeas and their cooking liquid, and the mashed chickpeas. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes.
  6. Serve with chapattis or steamed rice.
