Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is a type of organic acid that is produced naturally by the body during physical activity. It is also found in various foods, such as yogurt, sauerkraut, and pickles.  Lactic acid is produced in the body when glucose is broken down in the absence of oxygen. This process is called anaerobic respiration and occurs during intense physical activity or when the body's oxygen supply is limited. Lactic acid is also produced by certain bacteria during the fermentation process of foods.   In Ayurvedic medicine, lactic acid is not used as a standalone ingredient. However, it is believed that consuming fermented foods, which contain lactic acid, can promote digestive health and boost the immune system.
