Cabbage and Peas

Ingredients

  • 250g cabbage, shredded
  • ¾ cup fresh or frozen green peas
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • pinch of asafetida
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garam masala (see preparation – spices)
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped
Methods
  1. Heat the oil in a deep heavy-based frying pan over medium heat; add asafetida, cumin, green
    chilli and turmeric. Fry for a minute.
  2. Add the green peas and cook until the peas have been coated with the tempering.
  3. Add the cabbage and salt to taste; mix and cook, covering until tender.
  4. Add garam masala and coriander leaves, mix and serve hot.
    Note: Cabbage can be replaced with cauliflower, potatoes or mushrooms.
